If webapps are coming into Desktop domain, so as Desktop Software are pushing into web domain. There are hell lot of desktop software those seemlessly connecting to internet and in a way trying to replace web apps. We have I-Tunes, WindowMediaPlayer(to some extent), SubDownloader, online drive, dropbox, gtalk etc.etc. So my point here is that, in effect the boundary between desktop and web software is fading. As a result we are getting more useful, connected, simpler apps. In my opinion its from both side. If webapps are coming into Desktop domain, so as Desktop Software are pushing into web domain.
